John H. Simpson has over 30 years of experience as a leading investment banker and financial services executive. Prior to joining Broadhaven, he was Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Canyon Partners, a global alternative investment firm with over $25 billion in assets under management. Prior to Canyon, Mr. Simpson was Vice Chairman of Wasserstein Perella & Co., where he was a senior mergers and acquisitions professional and ran several of the firm’s largest business units. Prior to joining Wasserstein Perella, he practiced law with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York and served as a Law Clerk to a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Simpson’s first job was as a Patrol Deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He is Chair of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Discipline Commission (which, under the Illinois Supreme Court, regulates the legal profession in Illinois), Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery, a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Navy Pier, and a member of the Board of Directors of Lurie Children’s Hospital. Mr. Simpson is active in politics and was an Elector of the 2012 Electoral College. He is a graduate of Williams College (A.B., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Law School (J.D., magna cum laude; Editor, Harvard Law Review). He also holds a pilot’s license with an Airline Transport Rating.
